Caldera has been brewing in Calcutta since 2016. Sparkling Hop Water is what happened when we stopped treating hops as an ingredient in beer and started treating them as the point.
Caldera began brewing in 2016 and became the town's favourite tipple soon after — a hoppy, light craft beer made as an ode to the city that lives to chill. Over those years we learned hops properly: which varieties carry citrus, which carry pine, how much aroma survives the process, and how little it takes to go wrong.
Somewhere in that work a question kept coming back. The part of beer people describe when they talk about beer — the aroma, the dryness, the crispness — is mostly hops. So why should it only be available with alcohol, malt and calories attached?
Sparkling Hop Water is the answer. Carbonated water infused with hops. No malt, no yeast, no fermentation, no sugar. India's first of its kind, made by people who already knew the ingredient.
A craft beer built for Calcutta — hoppy, light, and made to be drunk slowly in company. Three variants, kegged and poured across the city.
Caldera reaches outlets, lounges and restaurants across Calcutta, and the CAL Bear becomes a familiar face on the table.
Trials begin on a non-alcoholic hop infusion. Getting the aroma right without malt to carry it turns out to be the hard part.
India's first sparkling hop water — 330 ml, green glass, zero alcohol, zero sugar, zero calories. Two ingredients on the label.
Carbonated water and hops. If something else ever needs to go in, it goes on the label in the same size type as everything else.
The character comes from the flower, not from flavouring. That limits what we can do, and we think the limit is the product.
No alcohol because there is no fermentation. No sugar because none was added. Not reformulated to remove things — designed without them.
Brewed, infused and bottled in Calcutta. The city is not a marketing line on the pack; it is where the plant is.
We believe brewing great is an art, not a formula.
That belief is why this product exists. A formula would have told us to add sweetener, flavouring and a health claim. The craft told us to take the ingredient we know best and get out of its way.

The bear on the bottle is CAL — unbothered, in sunglasses, entirely at ease. He stands for the way this city drinks: slowly, in company, with the conversation mattering more than the drink in hand.
Adda is not a word we borrowed for a campaign. It is the reason a drink that lets you stay for the fourth hour of a conversation makes sense here before it makes sense anywhere else.
